Dr. Max Gordon
Associate Veterinarian, Exotics
Born in Durham, Connecticut (how funny he now makes his home in our Durham, the beloved Bull City), Dr. Gordon grew up in the company of one younger brother and three lovely pups.
Dakota, an English Springer Spaniel, loved to go on walks and hikes and try to catch birds. Piper, nicknamed Prince Piper, was a former show pup. And Charlie, a Westie, was his town’s social butterfly. When Dr. Gordon moved away from his hometown with Charlie, neighborhood friends even begged for the pup to stay.
Dr. Gordon’s interest in helping animals started in high school. During his sophomore year at the University of Maryland, majoring in animal and avian sciences, he logged his first professional vet experience as a boarding assistant.
Earning a masters from Drexel University in laboratory animal sciences, followed by his vet degree from Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University in Massachusetts, Dr. Gordon can treat dogs, cats, and exotic pets.
We’re beyond excited Dr. Gordon can provide care to all kinds of exotics: small mammals like rabbits and ferrets, pocket pets like mice, rats, gerbils, and hamsters, turtles, lizards, snakes, and birds, including chickens. He can see any exotic pet who is not strictly aquatic or venomous.
Dr. Gordon shares his Durham, NC home with his partner, Kenny, a Norfolk Terrier named Dexter, and a gray tabby kitten named Ophelia (bonus points if you understand his Taylor Swift reference). His hobbies include running, hiking, and climbing.
His spirit animal is the intelligent, playful, resilient fox. His favorite quote is “Shoot for the moon because even if you miss, you’ll still be among the stars.”
